forever tomorrow

Toxic apathy seeps in like a growing Cancer
infecting what once was a source of pleasure
now it is the Giardia swimming in my crystalline waters

Laying in bed until the clock wakes me without alarm
the sloth of this monotony leaves me paralyzed
as if I were a character in some James Joyce story
knowing the way out and foiling my own plans

Perhaps tomorrow the sun will bring Spring’s renaissance
and the barren trees will inspire me with their budding limbs
or perhaps it will be the mire itself which makes me reach for my bootstraps
oh, but tomorrow is tomorrow, always a day away
and with each new dawn, tomorrow never comes

Excllent poem…I think we all have felt that level of “Toxic apathy” at one time or another in our lives.

Thanks for the supportive comment, Martin. I’ve decided to write about it… for better or for worse. Thanks for the empathy.

We’ve all been there, yo. You’re rounding the corner when you can write about it (especially when you write about it well, like you’ve done here). When I get down or uninspired, I watch freaky porn on Xtube. Do NOT search for the word STUMP on there unless you want your world to change forever.
