Mid-summer Bourbon

05/22/2009

summertime is said to be of a different color
no more dark browns or deep reds to warm you
no, they send you in search of another lover
but for bourbon whiskey none stand in lieu

I want my single-barrel, mid-summer mash, all summer long
Bourbon, when spring rears its head, no, I won’t do you wrong
I’ll be waiting for Kentucky to to send me her best
If I ask for a rum, gin or vodka, know it’s only in jest

when fall comes around, and the cold starts to nip
give thanks to the oak trees who’ll be fired out
just reach for the bottle and swig a big sip
the sweet charred cask flavor will dance in your mouth

I want my single-barrel, mid-summer mash, all summer long
Bourbon, when spring rears its head, no, I won’t do you wrong
I’ll be waiting for Kentucky to to send me her best
If I ask for a rum, gin or vodka, know it’s only in jest

I always knew you and George were a lot alike. Bourbon Poetry… you have come a long way from high school, really coming into your own now. Lechaim!
